At the 14th International Council for Coaching Excellence Global Coach Conference (ICCE GCC) at Marina Bay Sands on Thursday, 30 November 2023, three local coaches – Winson Cheong (volleyball) Pang Qing Liang (archery), Isa Halim (football) were awarded the Singapore Coach Medallion by Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

Launched in 2019, the Singapore Coach Medallion is presented to outstanding and inspiring coaches in Singapore who have made a significant impact to the athletes, coaching community, the sport and its stakeholders.

Winson have this to share about his award.  “I am very honoured to be presented with this esteemed award. It serves as a testament to my unwavering dedication to fostering a love for volleyball among our youth and children. This award affirms my passion for every aspect of coaching, particularly in cultivating a positive mindset among players. Witnessing their growth as individuals and their blossoming volleyball skills has been an immensely rewarding experience for me.

I firmly believe that fostering close collaboration among teachers, parents, and coaches is paramount to creating a holistic and nurturing educational environment for our students. As coaches, we play a complementary role to teachers by offering additional support, guidance, and mentorship, thereby contributing to a well-rounded learning experience that extends beyond the classroom. Additionally, by actively collaborating with fellow coaches, we can collectively elevate the coaching profession and enhance our ability to empower and inspire our students.

Coaching is becoming more important in education, which will make coaches more professional. As coaching methods improve to fit the changing educational landscape, coaches in Singapore can look forward to a future that is exciting and rewarding.”

Let’s congratulate Winson for his personal achievements, being the beacon of light to his many learners in the sport of volleyball and a role model for our coaches in their coaching journey.  It’s a timely occasion to celebrate the commitment of our coaching community in the steadfast delivery of their service, responsibility and meeting the expectations and trust emplace on them by the parents and teachers.
