This year’s Scholarship award marks the highest annual award of $1,254,000 given to a total of 478 student-athletes in 37 sports across four scholarship categories and a record of 99 recipients in the High-Performance under-18 category.
To qualify for the Scholarship, recipients are required to meet a set of criteria, including posting consistent results in sports competitions that they are passionate for.
Majority of the recipients come from financially challenged backgrounds and have demonstrated potential to excel in their respective sports. The recipients of these awards can use the funds to pay for their competition expenses, buy sport equipment, as well as to cover school-related expenses.
Our Beach Volleyball youth athlete, Mr Eng Cheng Feng, Renfred is the recipient of the High-Performance U-18 category. We look forward to many more years of sport excellence from Renfred as he chases his dream in Beach Volleyball and being an inspiration to our volleyball fraternity.
SOF chairman Ng Ser Miang said: “For young athletes pursuing sports excellence, financial difficulties may prevent them from achieving their fullest potential. Over the years, Peter’s support has impacted the lives of many young Singaporeans and their families, be it in helping them to achieve their sporting aspirations or encourage them to enjoy the benefit of sports. We hope we can continue to play a meaningful role in the lives of young student-athletes, and also contribute positively to Singapore’s sporting goals.”
